Keynote program, press kit, board packetMelissa Bischoping is a security leader whose academic and professional background in human psychology and technology align to educate, advocate for, and remediate the difficult security problems faced by businesses and individuals.
She leads the Secure Operations & Enablement organization at Siemens Digital Industries, where she builds strategy and enables detection and response. Previously she was Head of Threat Research & Intelligence at Tanium, where she built the teams, products, and programs that turned endpoint telemetry from thousands of enterprise environments into original research and product capability. Prior to Tanium, she held operations and security roles across the hospitality, casino gaming, and industrial manufacturing sectors.
Melissa leads with radical candor and a conviction that credibility, personal and organizational, is a strategic asset worth protecting relentlessly. She treats empathy as a research discipline rather than a soft skill: understanding how people actually decide under pressure is, to her, what turns policy into practice. When the pressure rises, she believes leadership means delivering clarity quickly and reducing complexity so teams can focus on high-impact work.
Melissa serves on the SANS Technology Institute Board of Directors and is an instructor candidate for LDR514: Strategic Planning, Policy & Leadership. She holds an M.S. in Information Security Engineering from the SANS Technology Institute, a B.S. in Information Technology, a B.S. in Psychology, and 12 active GIAC certifications including the GSP. Her experience as a career-changer, military spouse, and young mother led her down the 'scenic path' into cybersecurity, which has been the foundation of her human-centered approach to leading, teaching, and strategy - and the reason she builds for the people doing the work.
